Few celebrity homes showcase maximalism quite like Kate Hudson's. The chintz space, seen below, would not look displaced on a fairytale movie set – from its ornate window dressing to the gold chandelier that crowns the room above the free-standing blue tub.
'I do miss a fashion moment, so I think I'm gonna have them around the house from now on,' Kate says as she poses in a frilled dress that seamlessly complements her surroundings.
Kate's maximalist decorating ideas pay homage to the '80s without sacrificing style – a bold aesthetic that, we admit, can sometimes feel risky. However, interior design trend forecasters at 1stDibs (opens in new tab) have given us full approval to flirt with this look in 2023 – reporting that '1980s Pastels and Chintz' are set to make a revival in the months ahead.
According to their annual survey, 28 percent of their top designers said this distinct style would stage a comeback – followed by 1950s design (coming in at 23%). The latter reflects the recent penchant for modern Mid-Century design.
Kate Hudson's space is a celebration of the '80s maximalism, seen primarily through her chintz wallpaper and patterned rug (above). However, despite the home's retro aesthetic, the actress incorporates contemporary furnishings, most noticeably through her modern closet (whose subtle tones contrast the prints).
Pinterest (opens in new tab) similarly predicts that 'Hipstoric Homes' that blend vintage and modern pieces (as demonstrated by Kate) are among the biggest trends of the year – following a +850 percent search increase for eclectic interior design vintage' and a +530 percent surge on 'mixing modern and antique furniture.'
The social powerhouse adds that people of all ages will find new ways to honor old styles in their homes – combining vintage prints and inherited pieces with clean, modern styles that complement contemporary living. And, when Kate Hudson is an ambassador of this trend, who can surely disagree?
