Actor Jim Carrey's home in Brentwood, the prestigious Los Angeles neighborhood, is on the market for $28.9 million.

The actor, best known for The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and The Truman Show, resided in the 'soothing' property for 30 years (which he purchased for $3.8 million in 1994). However, he listed the estate (which is indisputably one of the world's best homes) after sharing that he was ready for  'changes' in his life via a statement in The New York Post (opens in new tab)

Following the release of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 in April 2022 – Jim Carrey announced he was planning on 'retiring' from acting – reportedly saying that he feels he has 'done enough.'

In a conversation with The Wall Street Journal (opens in new tab), Jim Carrey added that the 5 bedroom home had served as 'a place of enchantment and inspiration' over the past three decades. 'Every night the owls sang me lullabies and every morning I sipped my cup of joe with the hawks and hummingbirds, under a giant grandfather pine,' the actor says.

Extending over two private and serene acres, the home merges traditional and contemporary design from the moment you cross through the door. Much of the home exhibits a lesson in decorating with neutrals – but none more so than the spacious living room that combines white, cream, and gray furnishings with sleek light, and airy paint ideas

Jim Carrey has interrupted the subtle-hued space with an injection of color through the artworks and towering houseplants that bring a sense of vibrancy to the room.

Beyond these color ideas – the home is drenched in natural light that pours through the large windows and patios. Meanwhile, the polished brick floors and polished hardwood lend a grounding feel to the bright and airy spaces.

The living and dining spaces all exhibit verdant views across the pear trees and lawn – while the glass doors (that lead to a large courtyard patio) epitomize the art of California indoor-outdoor living.

The circular breakfast room (seen above) leads to a quintessential white kitchen, complete with ample cabinetry and high-end appliances, including an indoor bbq. There is also a spacious kitchen island with lots of room for food preparation and socialising.

Upstairs, the spacious main suite is described as a 'restful retreat' with a sitting area and fireplace alongside the sunny bay window. This leads out to a beautiful balcony that overlooks the estate. Meanwhile, the primary wood-paneled bathroom has a cozy fireplace and a spacious soaking tub.

Naturally, the home comes with a host of other amenities, including a bar, infrared sauna, gym, and a custom art deco theater – which is 'as striking as the famous movie palaces, according to the listing agent. This theater has mohair-covered sofas, burl wood columns, and a snack area, alongside a luxurious marble bathroom.

And, unsurprisingly, its backyard ideas are equally as majestic. There are over two luscious acres filled with beautiful mature trees and a large swimming pool. There is also a large entertaining patio alongside a vegetable garden and meandering paths that lead to a designated space for yoga.
