FLW fans, rejoice. Design label Steelcase has revived the architect's archival designs, and it has never been easier to bring his furniture into your home.
Lloyd Wright, a great originator and a highly productive architect who reset conventions with his Prairie-style and mid-century modern structures (exhibited in Fallingwater and Taliesin West), may be best known for his buildings – however, he was a master in furniture design, too.
In the early 1890s, while working to impact America's architectural scene, Frank Lloyd Wright began to create furniture for his home in Oak Park, Illinois. By 1939, he was designing for the market – including for the SC Johnson Administration building in Racine, Wisconsin. It is these pieces that are having a resurgence today.
The home office furniture, now available on Steelcase (opens in new tab), pays homage to Frank Lloyd Wright's philosophy of organic architecture – drawing from his original designs to create a piece that is both functional and beautiful.
Frank's distinct furniture for the SC Johnson building's Great Workroom pioneered a new way to work. And now, in a world where hybrid working is increasingly popular, his designs have a new meaning. The collection – named Racine – faithfully matches the original furnishings' style and finishes; however, it has received subtle adjustments (to their scale and proportions) to make them suitable for modern living.
'Frank Lloyd Wright used design as a means of deepening the relationships between people, nature, and place,' says Stuart Graff, president and CEO of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation (opens in new tab). 'With the Frank Lloyd Wright Racine Collection and our collaboration with Steelcase, we're excited to expand his vision of an architecture for better living.'
The Racine Collection is the first of the Steelcase X Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation's' new creative collaboration. However, there is more good luck for fans of the architect. The collaboration is expected to be 'sweeping in scope' as the organizations reflect on the past to maintain Frank's legacy in future collections.

This chair is, according to Steelcase, as iconic to look at as to sit in,' and we're inclined to agree. The design epitomizes Frank Lloyd Wright's belief in organic architecture – with a harmony of volume and line, nature’s rounded forms, and legendary structure.
